On Monday evenings between 18:30 – 19:45, Christine Leedy teaches Dru meditation at ‘t Pand. In this peaceful location, there are meditation cushions and benches, thick blankets, and yoga mats available for your use.
Just like in the yoga classes, the meditation classes begin with movement. We can release physical and emotional blocks by doing a short activation, followed by a Dru yoga series. Combining these movements with breathing exercises (pranayama) ensures that the energy (prana) in our bodies is flowing optimally.
Before we become still, the body must be relaxed. For this reason, every class includes relaxation exercises. You learn how to sit correctly and keep your spine straight so that you feel grounded and stable.
Dru meditation uses various ancient meditation techniques to help you be still and calm. We do Prana Kriyas, concentration (dharana) exercises, and mindfulness exercise during the class. We also do different guided meditations to help you go deeper and feel connected to who you are.
The point of the classes is to give you the tools to keep up your own meditation practice, to make it part of your daily life. You might be encouraged to write down your experiences or try out things outside of class. But if all you can do is come every week, please do. Together we can share our challenges and inspire one another.
